What is Dawn Ritual?

Dawn Ritual is a morning alarm app that only turns off once you have started your chosen morning practice on camera. There is no snooze button. You choose a practice - meditation, journaling, gratitude, stretching, breathwork or reading - set a duration from 30 seconds to 20 minutes, and the dawn soundscape keeps rising until the camera confirms you have begun.

Every habit app reminds you. Dawn Ritual is built on a different idea: the alarm's off switch is the behaviour itself, not a button. Willpower at 6am was never the missing piece. A system that doesn't accept excuses at 6am was.

How Dawn Ritual works

  1. Choose your practice.

Meditation, journaling, stretching, gratitude, breathwork, reading, or one you name yourself. Set your wake time, repeat days, and how long the practice should last (30 seconds to 20 minutes).

  2. Wake to dawn.

At your wake time a living soundscape rises - generated fresh on your phone each morning, never a looped recording. The only way to quiet it is to tap "I'm up - begin my practice."

  3. Show up, and it releases.

Your camera records while a soft timer counts down and the sound falls to gentle ambience. An on-device presence check confirms you're really there; step away and the dawn returns until you come back. Finish, and a chime marks the ritual complete. Your streak grows.

Twelve living soundscapes, never a recording

Every Dawn Ritual soundscape is generated live on your device each morning with stereo placement and a shared reverb space. No audio files, no loops - tomorrow's dawn has never sounded exactly like today's.

Private by design

Dawn Ritual collects nothing. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no server. Practice videos are recorded on-device and only saved if you choose to keep them. The presence check runs a small on-device face-detection model that answers only "a person is present" - no face data, images or biometric identifiers are ever stored or transmitted.

Frequently asked questions

What is Dawn Ritual?

Dawn Ritual is a morning alarm app that only turns off once you have started your chosen morning practice on camera. There is no snooze button. You pick a practice such as meditation, journaling or stretching, set a duration between 30 seconds and 20 minutes, and the dawn soundscape keeps rising until the camera confirms you have begun.

How is Dawn Ritual different from a normal alarm clock app?

A normal alarm stops when you tap dismiss or snooze, which lets you go straight back to sleep. Dawn Ritual removes the snooze button entirely: the alarm sound only softens once your camera shows you doing your practice, and it returns if you step away before the timer ends.

Does Dawn Ritual upload my videos or face data?

No. Recording happens entirely on the phone and a video is only saved if you choose to keep it. The presence check runs a small on-device face-detection model that answers only whether a person is in frame; no face data, images or biometric identifiers are stored or transmitted. The app has no server, no accounts, no ads and no analytics.

What morning practices can I use?

Built-in practices include meditation, journaling, gratitude, stretching, breathwork and reading, and you can name your own. The practice length is set per ritual, from 30 seconds up to 20 minutes.

What are the soundscapes?

Twelve soundscapes generated live on the device each morning rather than played from recordings: Dawn Chorus, Forest Morning, Ocean Waves, Gentle Rain, Mountain Stream, Wind Chimes, Singing Bowls, Bamboo Flute, Morning Kalimba, Sunrise Piano, Celestial Dawn and Deep Om.

Is Dawn Ritual free?

Dawn Ritual is free to download and use for daily rituals on iOS and Android. Optional premium extras may be offered inside the app.

What happens if I walk away from the camera during my practice?

The practice timer pauses and the dawn soundscape swells back up until you return to the frame. The alarm only completes when your full practice time has been spent present. If the presence check can't load - for example offline - the app falls back to recording-only verification.

Who makes Dawn Ritual?
